Welcome back to planDisney, Robert!
I’m happy to help you with more of your special vacation honoring your dad’s 90th birthday celebration! Having made a visit to
Walt Disney World Resort with my mother-in-law, I know there are many things to consider when traveling with our young-at-heart parents. One of the beauties of Disney Parks is the commitment to helping every guest enjoy their visit by creating a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere and providing a variety of access services.
Robert, because every individual is different and depending on the accommodations your dad may require, the first thing I recommend is scheduling a call with a
Disability Access Service (DAS) Cast Member. Currently, you may pre-register as soon as 30 days in advance of a park visit, but no less than 2 days before arrival. DAS is intended for Guests who have difficulty tolerating extended waits in a conventional queue environment due to a disability. While age alone might not qualify for DAS assistance, there may be other factors that inhibit your dad from waiting in long lines (such as frequent restroom breaks or inability to stand for long periods of time due to a medical condition). The DAS Cast Member will be able to help you determine if this accommodation is appropriate for your dad.
Robert, there are two more services that might be helpful to your dad. There are a
variety of hearing services, such as assistive listening devices, for those who have hearing issues. If your dad has mobility issues, please make sure to check the information regarding
mobility assistance options.
While traveling to Disney Parks with my parents, I’ve found that it is beneficial to make
advanced dining reservations for a Table Service meal at least once a day. In fact, that would offer an opportunity to celebrate your dad’s birthday by
ordering a Celebration Cake! I also recommend taking a mid-day break back at your hotel. And finally, remember to keep it simple, enjoy the moment and try not to worry about “doing it all.” For instance, I imagine that a simple ride down Main Street, U.S.A. aboard a
Main Street Vehicle with your dad will be the thing memories are made of!
Robert, if at any time during your vacation, you find any of the special assistance options might be helpful, please visit Guest Relations and a Cast Member will gladly assist you.
I would love to hear more about the plans you are considering for your dad’s special trip! If you have any other questions or need recommendations,
I’m here to help!
Wishing you many magical memories,
Shannon
