I am a WWII combat vet with a 30ft motor home. Would like to take to take my 4 grandkids and their mother to camp at Disney world wild kingdom. What do i make reservations for sometime 2010 or 2011 summer?

    Clark:

Our family loves Fort Wilderness and my guess is that your grandchildren will, too!

I don't know a bad time of the year to visit. We've gone for almost every major holiday and love going for Halloween and Christmas because many campers decorate their sites--an added part of the fun, as you visit other camping loops to see what your fort "neighbors" do to celebrate a season.

I personally enjoy the weather in October, as it is still warm enough to enjoy the pool and Chip 'n' Dale's campfire singalong without having to wear a coat.  Halloween decorations are up throughout the campus and the smell of pine eases all of my stress. If your grandchildren don't have a fall break from school and you have to look at 2011, consider going on Spring Break. Again, it's warmer so you can enjoy the pool and reservations are easier to come by than Christmas.

July and August would probably be my least favorite as the summer heat can make sitting at your site less pleasant, especially if you're in the new, tree-less loop in front of the Meadows Trading Post.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
