My son's birthday is Dec 23rd and for his 4th birthday we are planning a Very Merry Time Cruise for 2017. How are the families chosen to light the tree with Mickey?

    Ahoy Tiajuana –

Welcome aboard the Disney Parks Moms Panel! We are glad you stopped by with your very interesting question about Mickey’s Tree Lighting Magic Ceremony on Disney Cruise Line’s Very MerryTime Cruises. These special holiday cruises are a wonderful way to celebrate the season and even milestone birthdays for little boys like your son!

On every Very Merrytime Cruise there is a beautiful 24 foot Christmas Tree decorated to please the crowd. Check your Disney Cruise Line Navigator App to find out when the Ceremony will occur. A child (along with his/her family) is chosen at random to light the tree with Mickey. To increase the odds of your child being chosen, I suggest you arrive early, look enthusiastic, and even mention to Cast Members that you would like your son to be chosen for the honor.

There is no guarantee that he will be chosen, however, but know there are several other fun ways for him to celebrate his birthday. Consider room decorations, a custom birthday cake or a stateroom gift from Gifts & Amenities. Tiajuana, thanks for visiting us here and please come back for help with all your planning needs.
