My son's 5th bday is 2/23/23. I've never been to Orlando, so I was hoping to get some help planning this trip to make the most of our time there.

    Hi Anthony,

Welcome to planDisney and thank you for your question! How exciting to hear that you’re going to be celebrating your son’s birthday at the Walt Disney World Resort! I’m sure this will be a birthday he’ll never forget.

Since this is your first time in Orlando, I’ll go through a few things you’ll need to think about as you’re booking your party’s vacation. First, how will you get to Orlando? If you’re driving, you’d just drive to your Resort, but if you’re flying you have a few different options. If you’re not getting a rental car from the airport, you can utilize a rideshare service (like Lyft), Mears Connect, or Sunshine Flyer to get to your Resort. If you’ll be staying “on property” at the Walt Disney World Resort or at a place that has transportation to the Parks, a car is totally optional and not a necessity. But you know your family, so do what’s best for you!

Now, let’s talk about accommodations. If you’d like to stay “on property”, that just means in a Disney Resorts Collection hotel. These are different themed resorts of different tiers: Value, Moderate, and Deluxe. I suggest toggling through the different options and seeing what’s available during your timeframe. You can also look into the Good Neighbor Hotels, which are resorts in close proximity to Walt Disney World!

Next, you’ll want to think about tickets, how many days would you like to be in the Parks. Since this is your first time, keep in mind you won’t be able to do everything in one trip, but you can definitely do your must-dos! Depending on how long you’ll be in the area, I’d say two to three day tickets would give you plenty of time to celebrate! You can choose between one park per day tickets or Park Hopper tickets (which allow you to go to another Park after 2:00 p.m.). You can also look into packages, which allow you to book your hotel and tickets at the same time while staying on property.

Once you decide on what’s best and you make the purchase, you’re that much closer to your vacation! When you have that confirmation number, you’ll want to enter that into a My Disney Experience account so you can keep track of all your information in one place. The next step would be to book your Disney Park Pass reservations and start planning out your trip!

I know that was a ton of information, but I hope this “Bit By Bryanna” helps you prepare for your son’s birthday celebration at the Walt Disney World Resort. If you have any other vacation or planning questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out, I’m always happy to help!
