My son(age5) and I will be going on our first DCL in May and my question is when I sign my son up for the club of his age can I go off the boat without him to do a onshore adventure that he is not old enough to do?

    Ahoy Colleen –

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and congratulations on your first Disney Cruise! Your pirate crew will have an incredible vacation of a lifetime, and you will find that there is something for everyone on Disney Cruise Line. Your sea pup will absolutely adore the Oceaneer Club. I just got back from a 3-day cruise on the Disney Dream with my 2 sea pups, and my 5-year-old spent more time with the Youth Counselors than he did with me! At the Oceaneer Club there will be a variety of activities, games and interactions with the Youth Counselors that your young pirate may not even care to leave with you on an excursion. If that is the case, then yes, you may leave him in order to explore and make your own cruise memories. The cast members in the Oceaneer Club are trained to handle every sort of situation that may arise with your young one, and you can rest easy knowing your sea pup is cared for. Every pirate parent has access to a Wave Phone which the Counselors will use to relay important information to you, but these phones only work onboard and at Castaway Cay. Colleen, I suggest that you introduce your young pirate to the Oceaneer Club early on during your cruise so that he has a chance to get acclimated.  I often go to the Open House with my sea pup to play with him before I leave him in there.  By the end of our cruise, most of the counselors had gotten to know my son well, and as we were leaving on the last day, they bid him farewell by name. I hope that you enjoy planning for your upcoming cruise, Colleen, and thank you for stopping by!
