Hi Michelle,
Typhoon Lagoon is a great water park. I have two sons, ages 5 and 10, and they both absolutely love it there. My 5 year old has been on Gang Plank falls several times over the past couple of years. My only complaint is it is fairly short, at least when compared to the family ride at Blizzard Beach. Also, cast members will sometimes put in additional guests when it is just an adult and a child wanting to ride; young guests may or may not like that.
I'm only aware of the following restrictions at Typhoon Lagoon relative to you son's height and age:
- You must be at least 48 inches tall to experience Humunga Kowabunga which is their high speed slide.
- Guests under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult to experience Shark Reef
- Adult supervision is required in Castaway Creek
However, I have not tried putting my youngest son on any of the many other slides at Typhoon Lagoon. He loves Castaway Creek, Ketchakeddie Creek, and the main wave pool at the park; we spend most of the day in those three locations. Be careful in the wave pool; I suggest watching a couple of the waves first before jumping in, especially with your son.
The waves are huge! You should also know that Shark Reef is very popular and that he water for that particular attraction is very cold -- at least it always seems very cold to me. Young guests may not appreciate the cold water.
Have a magical vacation.
