Hello Chi! Thanks for visiting planDisney with your great question! My three (teenage) Disney-adoring sons have always loved visiting the Disney Parks! For many years, we always did so as a family. However, once the boys reached their teenage years, my wife and I allowed them to make new memories by experiencing the parks as brothers. They love spending time together (and their independence) in Disney parks!
Guests must be 14-years-old to enter a theme park without an adult. Your 16-year-old son can enter a theme park to experience all the thrill rides he wants!
If thrill rides are what he seeks, your son will be busy! The top thrill rides that my sons recommend are TRON Lightcycle / Run (Magic Kingdom Park), Tiana's Bayou Adventure (Magic Kingdom Park), Space Mountain (
Magic Kingdom Park), Guardians of the Galaxy – Cosmic Rewind (
EPCOT), Avatar Flight of Passage (
Disney’s Animal Kingdom), Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain (Disney’s Animal Kingdom), Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith (
Disney’s Hollywood Studios), The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (Disney’s Hollywood Studios), Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (Disney’s Hollywood Studios), and Star Wars – Rise of the Resistance (Disney’s Hollywood Studios)!
Chi, you and your son might enjoy watching the video I attached with this answer. In it, my fellow planDisney panelist, Heather, and I share our top tips for visiting the Walt Disney World Resort with teens! Enjoy your time at the resort hotel or experience other attractions in the parks as your son creates an adventure of his own in the Disney Parks!
Dreams do come true!
