Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel Heidi ~
I love that your son and his wife want to celebrate their daughter's first birthday at Disney World! I've been taking my boys since they were born and its always been fun watching them grow up Disney and see how their interests have changed over the yEARs.
I celebrated my boys' 1st birthdays by getting their first haircuts at the
Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom. They do an amazing job with little ones. They put little stickers on their pants so they were way more interested in them than what was going on with their hair. They also had little light up toys and bubbles that fascinated them and held their attention. Once they were finished with their haircuts, we took pictures with a big cape with a Mickey on it and the stylist holding big red plastic scissors. They got "My 1st Haircut Ears" and a certificate. It was a great experience and one I'll never forget.
Walk-ins are welcome at the Harmony Barber Shop but if you are visiting during a peak season or want to try to plan it around dining reservations or naptime, I'd recommend making a reservation by calling 407-WDW-PLAY.
They could have a shirt made prior to their trip showing that she is celebrating her first birthday so that when she is having pictures taken with the characters they'll see that she is celebrating. Be sure to take lots of video too especially when she meets
Mickey at the Town Square Theater in the Magic Kingdom because he now talks at that location.
Wishing your Granddaughter minnie magical birthday memories :-) Allison V.
