My son is visiting DW 12/7- 2/11 He is a type 1 diabetic on insulin pump & must carry supplies,& glucose tabs & sugary snacks or drinks with him at all times. Will he be able to get on the rides with a small pack with these items?

    Hi Cathy,

Absolutely! You can keep your purse, backpack or other bag with you on every single ride and attraction at Walt Disney World. Each ride has either a pouch where you can secure your bag or it can be placed on the floor at your feet. Only Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom, on which you can get soaked, gives you the option to place your things in a complimentary locker while you ride. Otherwise, your possessions stay with you at all times.

You should know, Cathy, that Walt Disney World is incredibly accommodating to those like your son who have medical or dietary needs that require special attention. Please be sure to let each restaurant know about his needs when you check in. At table service restaurants and some quick service spots, a chef will come speak to you about your dietary requirements, and they will make as many accommodations as possible.

My friend Jacqui, a former Disney Parks Moms Panelist, recently wrote a blog post for touringplans.com about visiting Walt Disney World with her 11-year-old daughter shortly after her daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. You might find her experience and advice helpful. You should be able to find it with an internet search for Disney and Type 1 diabetes and Touring Plans.

I hope that helps ease your mind a bit as you plan a relaxing getaway with your family. Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Don't hesitate to check in with us again if you have more questions about planning your Walt Disney World vacation. We're happy to assist in an way we can.

    Enjoy,
