Hiya, Tricia!
Oh Boy! How exciting that you have gifted your son and his girlfriend a stay at Walt Disney World using your Disney Vacation Club Points. My parents did the same for my husband and me, and it opened a whole new world for us both. Soon after, we became Members ourselves, and we have enjoyed flexible, affordable family vacations, year after year, ever since.
Tricia, when you use your Vacation Points to book a stay for another person, the reservation essentially becomes theirs. While you - the Member - would need to be the one to make any changes to the Resort reservation or be the one to call Member Services if you need them for any reason, the actual Resort stay will have the names of the Resort Guests on it (in this case, your son and his girlfriend.)
So, when it comes to being able to make Advance Dining Reservations, or book Enchanting Extras, 60 days in advance for the entirety of their stay for up to 10 days, your son or his girlfriend would need to be the ones to do that to get the
benefit of that booking window as a Disney Resort Hotel Guest. The Disney Resort Hotel reservation will need to be linked to their My Disney Experience accounts first, but then they should be able to book the dining or Enchanting Extra reservations beginning 60 days from the check-in date for the entirety of the stay (up to 10 days.) But, the reason you were only able to make the reservation 60 days in advance (and not for the entirety of their stay) is because you were accessing it from your My Disney Experience account, and your name is not on the Resort reservation as a Guest.
The same will be true when it comes to purchasing and selecting initial
Lightning Lane Multi Pass Selections, and purchasing Lightning Lane Single Passes, beginning 7 days in advance of check-in for the entirety of the stay up to 10 days. The Resort Guests are the ones who would have to do this through their My Disney Experience account (again, making sure their Disney Resort Hotel reservation is linked to their accounts.) Otherwise, if you try to do it, the system is only going to allow you to do this beginning three days from their Resort check-in date, since your name is not on the Disney Resort Hotel reservation. Even though your Vacation Points pay for the stay, the system is tied to those on the Resort reservation (actually staying in the room.) I hope this helps clear this up for you, Tricia.
Here's a tip for you, Tricia! Be sure to tell your son and his girlfriend about the
Disney Water Park Benefit in 2025 for Disney Resort Hotel Guests on check-in day! Once they arrive and check in to their Resort, they can drop their bags with Bell Services, then take the complimentary Resort bus over to one of the Disney Water Parks and enjoy the day there with complimentary admittance. How's that for magic!
I hope this helps you, Tricia! If you have any further Disney Vacation Club questions, soar back here to see me and I'll be so happy to help you.
See Ya Real Soon,
Keri
