Hi there, Megan!
So happy to have you onboard at planDisney as you make plans to set sail with Captain Mickey.
I totally get you wanting to make sure your son can travel safely as a diabetic. Disney Cruise Line does an excellent job assisting Guests with medical conditions. Like your son, my dad is a diabetic, so I am very aware of all the items he has to travel with and the precautions he must take. I assure you that cruising can be a safe and enjoyable experience for your son.
It is always a good idea to let the Cast Members know of your son’s medical situation prior to sailing. To that end, Guests with special needs are asked to complete and submit the
Special Services Information Form at least 60 days before the start of their vacation or just contact the
Special Services Team at (407) 566-3602 or SpecialServices@disneycruise.com. That way, they can be mindful of your party’s needs and can assist with nutritional suggestions like lower carb menu items. Disney Cruise Line has also prepared an
online booklet outlining how Guests with Medical Conditions and Disabilities can be accommodated while onboard.
I recommend that Guests with diabetes carry a full supply of all necessary medications and medical supplies with them. In fact, plan on packing more than necessary to be on the safe side. Just make sure that all medications are in their original containers and also packed in your carry-on luggage and NOT in luggage that is being checked at the port. His insulin would be kept refrigerated in your stateroom refrigerator.
Hopefully this is reassuring that a Disney cruise can be an exceptional vacation and a healthy one at that! If you need additional assistance, cruise back to planDisney and send more questions our way.
SEA ya real soon!
