Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Simon! You have quite the growing kid! Your question is a great one because there are different rules for those 9 and under, and those age 10 and up!
The age a child is upon check-in day is traditionally the “age they remain” for the entire trip. Of course, if a child were to check-in at age 2 and turn 3 during the trip, their birthday would mark the first eligible day for
The Pirate's League. Likewise, your 9-year-old-turned-10 on your trip will remain a 9 year old for the trip. This is handy for ticket prices (they are cheaper for those 9 and under) as well as kid’s meals with the
Disney Dining Plan or a la carte prices (kids meals are cheaper!). The wrench in the works comes in if you have a kid with a large appetite or want to have a
Magic Your Way Package. Since your child is 9 upon check-in, they will most likely have booked child meal credits. These are restricted to the kid’s menu. If your son wants to eat from the adult menu and use his adult tickets, you’ll need to have your package confirmation number handy and either contact your Travel Agent or a Disney Cast Member at (407) 939-5277 to upgrade your package.
If I can help you find some
Table Service restaurants to meet your adventurous appetites or perhaps share my favorite Park snacks, please let me know. You’ve got a friend in me! ~ Lindsey P.
