My son is turning 20, and he mentioned he misses being a kid, so I thought Disneyland/world! End of January is his bday, which location would be the best to attend? We've never been but would love to take him even though he's older.

Hi there Garrett, and welcome to planDisney!

When we look back at Walt Disney's legacy and the theme parks that have since come into existence, of the best things about his original vision was to create a place that wasn't just intended for children but for adults to enjoy. Throughout my planDisney research and visits to the theme parks around the world I observe all kinds of folks enjoying their time from young families to groups of adults and even older retirees and veterans alike across the parks; indeed at the international Disney Destinations I find that there's a lot less of the misconception that these are places just for kids and Disney Adults have felt welcome to just enjoy themselves at any age in these spaces. Some of the folks I'm friends with today didn't get a chance to visit any of the Disney theme parks until they were an adult and fell in love with it - so I think planning this for your son is definitely a solid awesome-parent move and I'm here to help you plan this with some personal insight of my own:

    • On the other hand, there's really nothing quite like visiting Walt Disney World Resort with its impressive variety of Disney Resort Hotels to stay at as well as many more theme parks and attractions to experience. If you're aiming for a longer vacation to see and do so much more out in Orlando, this may include a lot more to prepare and plan for - so coming back to us for specific strategies and things he won't want to miss would be an excellent idea. We've also got a podcast guide for First-Timers at Walt Disney World Resort for you to take a look at to help you determine what your family might be ready to tackle.
Either way, it's definitely great that his birthday falls around my personal preferred time of year to visit and not during one of the intensely popular periods; in my opinion going in January when the weather is milder and the holiday crowds have departed both result in better first-time trips! In the end I think it could come down to how much time you have allotted for this celebratory trip, how much ground you're willing to cover as well as your overall budget - but either way he's sure to enjoy living his best life as a grown-up kid as he celebrates turning 20!

Come back again soon for more specific strategies once you've decided on where he'd like to go!
