My son will be turning 11 on July 11 in 2011 and we are planning a special disney trip, cannot make up my mind on which deluxe resort to stay at - any suggestions? also, what will Disney staff do to make this huge birthday event special?

    Hi Tracy,

What a great birthday present for your son!  All of the deluxe resorts at Walt Disney World have something unique to offer, and you can't go wrong choosing any one of them.  However, as a mom of a soon to be 11 year old, I will tell you that his favorite resort (and the one I think you should choose) is Beach Club.

Beach Club has so much to offer.  Stormalong Bay, the main pool area, is a miniature water park!  It's a great place to cool off in the middle of a July afternoon.  Cape May has one of our favorite character breakfasts.  There are also tons activities that take place each day either poolside or in the lobby.  In the evenings, you can enjoy a Disney movie under the stars, complete with s'mores!

But, the best part about the Beach Club for us?  LOCATION!  Epcot is a short walk away, and there's even a walkway to Hollywood Studios -- although it's not quite as close.  Still, we find that at the end of a long night, we like the ability to walk back to the resort, rather than standing in line with the masses to wait for the boat.

As far as making his birthday special, there are no guarantees that anything will be done.  However, make sure you indicate your son's birthday when you are making reservations AND when you check in to the resort.  They may leave a small surprise on his special day.

Make sure he gets a birthday button at the kiosk in Magic Kingdom or at guest relations in the other parks.  Again, nothing is guaranteed, but cast members will wish him Happy Birthday wherever he goes.

Hope this helps.  Have fun planning and have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
