Hello! My son has a tree nut allergy and always wants to have hot chocolate when we are in Disney World. I have to say no because I don't know the brand and cant take a chance. Do you know what brand they use?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Karen!

As the mom to a little Mouseketeer with food allergies, I completely understand the challenges involved with eating away from home and the necessity to always check about the safety foods before he eats them. As suppliers can sometimes change, the best way for you to determine the safety of the hot chocolate at the theme parks is to ask the Cast Member at the restaurant or food stand for the ingredients list. I just did this yesterday at a popcorn cart in Magic Kingdom. The Cast Member was able to get the Special Dietary Request binder from the cart for me to take a look at. It contained the packaging labels for the products served at her cart. You can do this at any food cart, quick service restaurant or table service restaurant. You can also always ask for a Cast Member or manager who specializes in food allergies to help you make a determination of safe foods.

I have learned when dealing with my son's allergies that it is always good to bring safe alternative options with us on our trip to avoid disappointment. For us, these options generally include safe chocolate and candy to offset some of the treats he must avoid. You may want to consider bringing some instant packets of hot chocolate with you to the park just in case the other available options are not safe. Your son could choose a special mug in the parks that he would like to use for his hot chocolate and then get hot water from a quick service restaurant to mix his treat. That way, he would still be able to enjoy his warm treat in a special Mickey mug, just like all of the other Guests, and have a nice souvenEAR to take home!

Please let me know if you have any other questions as you prepare for your trip! T-T-F-N, ta ta for now!
