My Son and I are taking our first cruise ever for us both. I am a little worried about how to work in some us time. Are there activities for children and their parents on the ship?

    Hi there, Terrie!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!  Your Disney Cruise Line vacation is just around the corner and I am SO EXCITED for you and know you must be too!  The countdown to your magical and oh so memorable adventure at sea is ON!

I am so glad you sailed by with your question about how to make sure you get the most out of your vacation with your son and let me tell you…. you most certainly will!  A Disney Cruise Line vacation is a perfect vacation for all ages because there is so much to do onboard and so many options to choose from!  And the best part about a Disney Cruise Line vacation is that most activities are for all ages – from the smallest Mouseketeers to the biggest kids (and I am speaking of the grown-ups here…) onboard!  There will be more activities and entertainment to choose from once you get onboard that your biggest hurdle will be how to do it all!

While my boys do enjoy going to the onboard Youth Clubs and we do utilize them throughout our voyages, there are so many things that we enjoy doing together as a family – or even one-on-one with our boys.  Some of our favorites include trivia and games held in the lounges, character dance parties, family dance parties after dinner, Bingo and catching a first-run movie in the Buena Vista Theatre!  We also love attending the Youth Club Open House hours with our boys where we can play alongside them and they can show us their favorite things to do when they are in there!  We also always attend the evening entertainment together, whether it be a Broadway-style live show or an entertaining variety act…they are all family-friendly and meant to be enjoyed together!

If you haven’t yet, be sure to download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to your smartphone so that you can have access to a full schedule of onboard activities and entertainment.  I love looking through each day and talking with my boys about what we want to do and then marking them on the app as an activity I don’t want to miss!  Then, about 15-minutes before the activity begins my phone will alert me with a reminder so that we can make our way to the activity!  Believe me, you will find more than enough activities for both of you to enjoy!  But I do recommend taking advantage of the onboard Youth Clubs and maybe even giving yourself a little “me time” and visiting Senses Spa and Salon or the Quiet Cove Pool for a relaxing hour or two to yourself!

Wishing you the BEST vacation ever, Terrie!  Say hi to Captain Mickey for me!

    Happy Sailing!
