Hi Summer! Welcome to planDisney!
I'm so sorry to hear of your son's injury, but so thankful there's a magical place like Disneyland where troubles seem far way - and I bet you're both counting down the days until your visit!
Thank you for your great question. Disneyland does provide
mobility devices for rent, including wheelchairs and ECVs, that will allow your son to experience the magic of the Happiest Place on Earth, however, Guests operating a rented ECV from Disneyland must be 18 years of age or older. If your son is younger than 18, I suggest renting a manual wheelchair or reaching out to third-party rental services in the Anaheim area to inquire about their ECV policies. More information on Disney featured providers can be found
on the Disneyland website.
If you plan to rent a mobility device from Disneyland, arrive early at the
Stroller Shop located outside the theme parks, just east of the Disneyland Park Main Entrance, as a limited number of ECVs and wheelchairs are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis. I confirmed with a friendly Cast Member that the Stroller Shop opens one hour prior to park opening. (Be aware that hours are subject to change without notice.)
As for experiencing attractions utilizing a scooter or wheelchair, each attraction varies, so your best bet is to speak with a Cast Member at the attraction your son wishes to experience, to discuss what his options might be. There are
multiple services available for those with mobility disabilities.
Tip: When you arrive to the parks, stop by a
Guest Relations location and ask for a
Guide for Guests with Disabilities. This detailed guide map indicates where and how to access attractions and was a game-changer for me and my mom as we navigated the parks with a scooter.
Speaking of game-changer, Guests utilizing a wheelchair or ECV may inquire with a Cast Member about designated viewing options for entertainment, like fireworks and parades. These first-come, first-served areas fill up fast, if available, so make sure to show up early. No guarantees, but worth an ask! And with
Disneyland's 70th Celebration, which begins May 16, there will be no shortage of entertainment! Check the
Hours & Events Calendar on the Disneyland website for showtimes and all the ways to "Celebrate Happy!"
Well, Summer, I have no doubt your son will be off and rolling along in no time! I hope this information has been helpful! If you have any additional questions as you prepare for your visit to the Happiest Place on Earth, like where to find the best
70th Celebration treats or strategies for hitting all your family's top priorities, please don't hesitate to
reach out again. Happy to help!
Warmest wishes,
McCayla
