Welcome to planDisney, Krista!
I'm sorry to hear about your son's injured arm. Hopefully, he's on the mend and looking forward to your upcoming Walt Disney World Resort vacation.
Last year, about a month before I was due to travel to The Most Magical Place on Earth, I broke my rib in three places playing soccer. I remember hearing the crack when I hit the floor. My first thought was, "Oh no, I won't be able to ride
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!" Thankfully, the ride is so incredibly smooth that I was able to experience it (numerous times!) and live to tell the tale on the
planDisney podcast. However, I definitely had some extra nerves the first time I rode it.
In fact, I was able to enjoy most of the rides at Walt Disney World during that trip. However, there were a few jerky rides (e.g.
Space Mountain,
Expedition Everest,
Test Track, etc.) that I had to avoid because I didn't want to risk reinjuring myself.
Although your son has a different injury, I would anticipate most of the attractions being ok for him to ride. However, when it comes to the more thrilling rides, it probably depends on his comfort level. He'll also need to be able to fit inside any ride harnesses with his full arm cast. And when it comes to rides that involve getting wet (e.g.
Kali River Rapids), he'll want to cover his cast with something waterproof. Most importantly, I would seek advice from his doctor prior to traveling. I might even connect with the
Disability Service Cast Members and get their input. As essential as fun is to a Walt Disney World trip, safety is of utmost importance.
I hope that's helpful information, Krista. Despite his full arm cast, I trust your son will have a brilliant time. Thanks so much for stopping by
planDisney.
Mike
