My son and I were recently in WDW for a great time! There was much construction at that time (May 21-28, 2010) and I was wondering if the construction was finished yet, for we are trying to make travel plans to WDW and want to avoid construction. Thanks!

    Hi Carolyn,

I was at WDW during that time too - sorry I missed you but how did you miss me? I was wearing Moms Panel pink the whole time - LOL!

You are correct, there was a lot of construction going on in May and the Magic Kingdom looked a little sad to me but I know that exciting things are in the works with the Fantasyland Expansion.  I was at the Magic Kingdom again a couple of weeks ago and the construction walls (even more in some areas) are still up.  I was able to get a peak over them during my 90 second Dumbo ride and it does look like progress is being made.

Although no specific date has been given, the Fantasyland expansion project is scheduled for completion sometime in 2013.  If you want to avoid the construction completely you may want to plan your trip for 2 to 3 years down the road (if you can wait that long). If not, just remember the great time you had in May and know that there is still lots of magic to experience during the expansion.

For updates, keep an eye out on the official Disney Parks Blog.  The D23 website (the Official Disney Fan Club) also gives updates on the progress - click here.  If you're on twitter, be sure to follow these official twitter feeds: DisneyParks, WaltDisneyWorld and Disney23.

2013 seems like a long ways away but if your life is anything like mine, it will be here before you know it and the new Fantasyland is sure to be INCREDIBLE!  Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
