My son recently got a stress fracture in his leg and has a walking boot now. We are going to get a wheelchair to push him through the parks now. Will we be able to have the wheelchair in the entire line while we wait? Will it fit?

Welcome, Meghan, to planDisney! I’m so glad you stopped by. It’s an honor to help you plan every magical detail of your upcoming Disney vacation.

During one of our recent visits, my daughter wore a walking boot and required a wheelchair, so I completely understand the importance of comfort and accessibility while navigating the parks.

You’ll find that wheelchairs and ECVs are welcome on nearly all of Disney’s complimentary transportation options, including buses, the Monorail, and the Disney Skyliner. The only exception might be some of the smaller watercraft, like the resort ferryboats, where boarding may depend on water levels and available space.

Many attractions also have designated entrances or alternate access routes to accommodate Guests using wheelchairs. Just let the Cast Members know when you arrive at the attraction, and they’ll guide you through the process with the kind of Disney hospitality we all know and love. Wheelchairs and ECVs are permitted up to a certain point in the line, but it will be very close to where you will board the ride, making it comfortable and easy for your son to access.

If you’re planning to rent a wheelchair or ECV, you can do so at all four theme parks, Disney Springs, and both water parks. I would also consider Disney's Featured Provider, ScooterBug, which offers the convenience of delivery to your resort hotel. Having your wheelchair available at your resort and beyond the parks will make getting around for your son much more comfortable.

However, if you choose to rent your wheelchair or ECV directly from the theme parks, it will only be available for use within the park where it was rented. Once you exit that park, you’ll return the device at the rental location. If you’re planning to visit another park the same day, you can simply show your rental receipt at the next park (subject to availability) and pick up a new one there.

Let me know if you’d like help deciding which mobility option is best for your trip. I’m happy to share tips that worked well for our family!
