Hello! My son and I plan on visiting DL are part of the DVC family, but he and I have never experienced the parks at DL before. How many days would be a good first time experience? Transportation from JW airport? Dining Plans?

    Welcome Home Carolyn!

Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel!  Don't forget to bring your Disney Vacation Club Membership Card as you'll find many discounts throughout the Disneyland Resort.

We can’t wait to welcome you home at the Disneyland Resort. My favorite Disney Vacation Club Resort is The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. If you’re not staying there, I would consider booking a cash room or at least stopping by for one of their fabulous dining options. Speaking of dining, this resort has two of my favorite restaurants on property. GCH Craftsman Bar and Napa Rose are two great restaurants that I highly recommend you try. In the Downtown Disney District I love Napolini Pizzeria, Ballast Point Brewing Co, and Uva Bar. One of my all time favorites in the parks is Carnation Cafe at Disneyland Park. To me, this is classic Disney Dining and you must get the Fried Pickles if you dine there. Another park dining choice is the Lamplight Lounge. If you love Pixar, then this is the place for you. I highly recommend dining reservations for these options as they are popular choices for guests.

You’ve made a great choice with flying into John Wayne Airport. It’s about 25 minutes from the Disneyland Resort. I recommend Uber or Lyft to get you to your hotel. Download the App and you’ll be good to go. You could also book a private shuttle, luxury SUV or limousine if that's more your style. But I think Uber or Lyft is the way to go.

In my opinion, you should not spend less than three days in the parks. But my recommendation is really four or five. Because this is your first trip, I don’t recommend Park Hopper tickets. Park Hopping is a breeze because Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park are so close to each other, but I recommend One Park Per Day Tickets so that you can dedicate all of your time to one park at a time. Because you’re going in October I’m going to recommend 4 days. Buy a 3-day One Park Per Day Ticket and then a special event ticket for Oogie Boogie Bash- A Disney Halloween Party. Spend two full days at Disneyland Park and then one full day at Disney California Adventure Park. The morning of the bash can be used to explore the Downtown Disney District. The bash is over at Disney California Adventure Park and you get to enter early before the Halloween Party begins. This gives you extra time in that park and also lets you experience Oogie Boogie Bash- A Disney Halloween Party.

Well Carolyn, this was a lot of information and I hope it’s useful for planning your trip. If you think of anything else before then, please don’t hesitate to come back and let us know how we can help.

Remember, always believe in the magic!
