My son has an old Magic band from a previous trip. Can I re-activate it for a current trip?

    Hi Natalie, welcome to planDisney!

Your Walt Disney World Resort vacation countdown just so happens to coincide with the biggest countdown of the year - how cool is that?! Not everyone gets a glass ball in Times Square announcing the arrival of their magical trip.

Valid admission, a theme park reservation for each park day, and a method of entry (MagicBand, MagicBand+, Disney MagicMobile pass, or admission card) are currently required for theme park entry. MagicBands are assigned to individuals in My Disney Experience, not individual tickets. That means your son's MagicBand is automagically connected to all of the vacation entitlements currently linked to him in My Disney Experience, as long as it's still active. Let's dig a little deeper.

Please take a look at your son's name as it appears on your Family and Friends List in My Disney Experience. If your son's name has the words "Plans Managed by Me" next to it, you can view and manage his MagicBands and admission cards because his My Disney Experience account profile is managed under your account. Prove this by going to the MagicBands and Cards page of your account. Assuming we've established that your son's My Disney Experience account profile is managed under your account, click his name and locate the MagicBand your son used on a previous trip. If it has the word "Active" next to it, it's ready to use on your first park day. If it says "Inactive," click the "Activate" button and it's ready to go.

While the new MagicBand+ designs are rechargeable, it's important to note that the battery life of older MagicBand models is said to be about two years. If your last vacation was over two years ago, I advise having a backup method of entry ready, just in case. My son wears his MagicBand intermittently so I used the My Disney Experience mobile app to download a Disney MagicMobile pass for him on our most recent trip (three small lines on the bottom right of the home page --> Disney MagicMobile). I had no trouble using my phone to tap him in at theme park entry and Lightning Lane entrances when he wasn't wearing his MagicBand.

3...2...1...Happy Vacation, Natalie!! Please don't hesitate to contact me directly with any other questions.
