My son does not like to visit the parks. He is 9 years old. What activities are there outside of the parks that would be fun for a 9 year old to do, what resorts would be best to stay at to have activities, pools etc. that would be fun for a 9 yr

    Hi Michelle,

I am sorry to hear the parks don't appeal to your son, but I assure you there is plenty to do at Walt Disney World Resort outside of the four Theme Parks! My family once took a trip without setting foot inside a Theme Park and we still ran out of time before experiencing everything we had planned.

The great thing about Disney Resort hotels is there are plenty of activities and entertainment options at the Resorts each day. If your son loves to swim, you will be happy to know there are outdoor heated pools at all Disney Resort hotels. Lifeguard Cast Members host daily poolside activities for guests, including games such as Bingo, Movie Trivia, arts and crafts and scavenger hunts. Another very popular event at the Resorts is the nightly Movie Under the Stars, where guests can enjoy outdoor screenings of Disney movies.

Michelle, my top choice for a Walt Disney World Resort hotel during a trip where we would not be visiting the Theme Parks would be Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is such a unique experience; where else can you wake up, pull back the curtains and observe zebras and giraffes roaming a vast savanna underneath your balcony? My kids are close in age to your son and they absolutely love this Resort! Not only does Animal Kingdom Lodge have a fabulous pool and delicious restaurants, but it also hosts many Resort activities which I expect might appeal to your son. There's nighttime wildlife viewing on the savanna with night vision googles, fun pin trading experiences with "King Pin", a friendly Cast Member, African drum playing, and a multitude of African cultural immersion and wildlife discovery programs.

Michelle, I hope these suggestions are helpful for you. Please let us know if you have any other questions; we are here to help!
