My son has muscular dystrophy and our trip in December will be the first time we use his wheelchair full time. Can you provide me information on accessible access to rides and how it works when traveling with a family of 4 adults and my 8 year old son?

Hey there, Melanie! December is my favorite time to visit Walt Disney World. The holiday season just adds an extra layer of pixie dusted magic over the whole resort area.

There is a pretty comprehensive list of attractions accessible to guests with mobility disabilities. Guests who are unable to transfer out of a wheelchair can enjoy attractions at all four theme parks. For guests who can transfer from a wheelchair to a ride vehicle, other options become available as well. No special accommodations are necessary for your son or the guests in your party.

I do want to mention the Disability Access Service Card. Generally, guests in a wheelchair will not need the card, but if you think your son might benefit from additional consideration, absolutely look into this card. In general, guests in wheelchairs can be accommodated in a regular queue, so there's no need to make special arrangements or get the DAS card. In the event that a guest cannot wait in queue for whatever reason, you'll be given a return time for your whole party (up to six people), so you can go enjoy another attraction or grab a bite to eat until it's time to come back. If your son's condition will prevent him from enjoying a full day at the park, or if there's another way you can think of that he might need assistance, bring it to the attention of guest services when inquiring about the Disability Access Service Card.

I hope your family enjoys this festive season at Walt Disney World!
