My son will be 5 months old when we go on our 7 day cruise. How do I sterilize my breast pump items?

    Hi Emily,

Welcome to the Moms Panel!  I loved cruising with our infants it's about the most relaxing vacation you can take with an infant.  I loved having the serenity of our stateroom just a moment away at any given time - plus no need to lug a diaper bag since you could quickly retreat to your cabin when duty called.

Anyhow, I've washed a good number breast pump parts in my day, so hopefully I can help but unfortunately there is not a perfect solution to this issue while cruising.

I am more than happy to offer my suggestions as to what I would do, but I highly recommend that you discuss this with your pediatrician prior to sailing.  Every child is different, and may have a unique situation that requires special care.

For ultimate convenience, If it is within your budget you might want to consider purchasing a steam sterilizer to bring with you.  I know Avent has one for around $90.  Be sure to contact Guest Services to have the Chief Electrician approve the use of your particular appliance in the stateroom.

Another option would be to pack a plastic container large enough to fit all the disassembled parts that require washing - along with a travel size container of dish soap, and a ziploc bag with folded up paper towels (one for each anticipated washing).  When you are ready to wash the parts, I would have room-service deliver two carafes of hot water.  I would pour one over the parts in the container with a few drops of soap.  Use a paper towel to wash each item, the use the second carafe of hot water to pour over the parts to rinse them.  I also recommend bringing your own towel from home to lay the parts on to dry.

    I hope this helps!
