My son will be marching in Magic Kingdom with his HS band in Feb. Is it worth it for my family to reserve the Festival of Fantasy Dining Pkg for the VIP area? And where is the VIP area? Are there better locations if mainly just want to see the band kids?

Hi, Kristi!  Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

I am so excited to hEAR that your son will have the opportunity to perform in Magic Kingdom Park with his high school band!  Although it's been nearly 26 years (yikes!), I can still clearly remember marching right down the middle of Main Street, U.S.A. with my own high school band.  It is an incredible experience to help make magic happen for Walt Disney World Resort guests, and I'm sure that your son will also remember it for yEARs to come.

I know that, as a proud parent, this performance also means a great deal to you.  You'll want the perfect spot from which to watch the parade.  If you're looking for a great view of the parade with a picturesque backdrop, then the VIP viewing area included in the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade Dining Package cannot be beaten!  I had the opportunity to watch the Boo-to-You Halloween Parade at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party last fall from this same VIP viewing area and it was nothing short of amazing!  The VIP viewing area is located near the flagpole in Town Square, right outside of Tony's Town Square Restaurant.  You will have a head-on view of the parade making its way down Main Street, U.S.A. with Cinderella Castle in the background.

Guests begin to line up along the parade route well in advance in order to have a great view of the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade.  Spots within the dining package's VIP viewing area are also first-come, first-served, but due to the limited number of guests admitted inside the VIP area, it is much easier to grab that perfect viewing spot within the VIP section.  If you decide to forgo the dining package, I would recommend heading to the parade route early to find a good spot.  In my experience, the section of the parade route that winds through Frontierland tends to be much less crowded than Main Street, U.S.A. and the castle hub area.

Wishing your son and the rest of his band a performance that is practically perfect in every way!  Have a magical day!
