Our son loves country music so thinking of going to mickeys backyard BBQ. We will either be leaving from port Orleans or animal kingdom as we will be there early in the day. Would it be long or tedious to get to? Is there a direct bus from port Orleans?

Travel between resorts can be a long process, Ben.  Therefore, it would be much easier to get to Fort Wilderness for Mickey's Backyard BBQ from Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park.  Doing so would only require you to hop a bus to that resort right outside the theme park entrance.  To get to Fort Wilderness from Port Orleans would be slightly more time consuming, but not impossible.  You'd want to board a bus to the Magic Kingdom.  Once you arrived there, take the boat to Fort Wilderness.  As you can see, going straight there from the theme park would be significantly easier.  I can tell you, though, that the expression on your son's face as he experienced Mickey's BBQ would make either transportation route worth it.  Enjoy!
