my son will b five in may when we are going, is there something special i can do for him, maybe happy birthday song from one of the characters?

    Hi Tiffany,

Celebrating a birthday at Walt Disney World is so much fun! We have celebrated my birthday, my husband's birthday, and my daughter's birthday at Walt Disney World. Let me share with you some of what we do to make these celebrations truly magical.

First, be sure to pick up a Happy Birthday button for your son. These are free of charge, and are available at Guest Relations at the theme parks as well as other locations throughout Walt Disney World. It is really special to hear cast members and guests alike wishing your son a happy birthday! Also, on any dining or resort reservations that you make, indicate that you are celebrating a birthday. While wearing the birthday pin and indicating the birthday on reservations do not guarantee any special treatment, they can encourage a little extra pixie dust to come your way. I will never forget the look on my daughter's face when a cast member brought her a giant cupcake after her birthday lunch at The Plaza Restaurant!

Another option is to work with Disney Floral and Gifts to have a special gift designed just for your son. The Magic Makers there can put together a customized celebration including snacks, balloons, plush animals, and so much more, with a variety of characters and themes. I suggest that once you peruse the website, you call them at 407-WDW-GIFT (407-939-4438) to speak with a Magic Maker to customize your gift.

Finally, there are many options for special cakes at Walt Disney World. Recently, for my husband's birthday, we had a delicious cake with a white chocolate Stitch on top delivered to our deluxe studio at Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows! There is good information about ordering cakes at the unofficial site disneyfoodblog.com. On that site, search for "cake" to find the cake frequently asked questions page.

Have a great time planning your magical celebration, Tiffany!
