My son is excited about dockside fishing at POR and FW. He would like to bring a fishing rod of his own. Are these allowed as long as we pay the fee? Could he bring a small tackle box? We know that it is catch and release and respect that. Thanx!

Hi Lynn! My husband and I are frequent "campers" at Fort Wilderness in our motor coach. I am certainly the fisher person of the family and we like to get sites on the small lake if possible. I definitely bring my own fishing pole as do many other campers and I have my own tackle box as well. You are able to rent poles and purchase worms because most guests fly in and can't bring their own. If your son has a favorite pole that is guaranteed to catch some fish then he is welcome to just come and fish away. There isn't a fee for fishing but just for the rental of the equipment if needed.

You will need to ask specifically where you can fish at both locations. I will warn you that the fishing on the Fort Wilderness lake doesn't produce too many bites but it is still fun and relaxing. You can fish on the other canals but you can't fish in Bay Lake. All fishing is a catch and release rule which is fine with me as I am not one who cares to clean them...I just like to catch and say hi and then back in they go!

    Happy fishing!
