My 13yo son and I will be doing our very first runDisney event this year for W&D. I am concerned about us getting separated during our race (5K). Do you have any suggestions for us on where to meet? Any other tips on running with kids would be great!

    Hi Kim!

Congratulations on your first runDisney event! Mine was Disney's Princess Half Marathon in 2013, and I've been addicted ever since. I suggest discussing a plan with your son on what to do if you do happen to get separated. Is this race something you want to do together or will he want to run solo? I know my kids can run laps around me.

The Disney Fall Feast 5K will run through Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park and start and finish in the parking lot. If you run together, I suggest just having fun! There are Disney characters that you can stop and take pictures with while on the course. These pictures are memories I cherish. You don't have to stop for all of them. I usually choose characters that are hard to find in the theme parks or are rare to spot. If this year's course is the same as last year's course then you'll get to run through Pandora - The World of Avatar, which will be incredible!

If you do get separated with your son, then I suggest meeting in the Family Reunion area after the race. It's the area after you get your medals and take your pictures. You exit the runners' area and there are large signs with letters. I usually choose the first letter of our last name and meet there. Or you can say meet at the stage.

Have so much fun at your race, and don't forget every mile is magic!
