How fun for your son! I have fond memories of my own school trip to Walt Disney World Resort many,
many years ago.
If you manage your son's profile in your
My Disney Experience account, or if you are connected to his account through
Family & Friends, you should be able to purchase
Disney Genie+ service for him through your account. Since I have no way of knowing how the organizers of your son's trip have everything set up for the students, I'll give you a couple of options. If his ticket has already been linked to his profile, check to see if the ticket gives you the option to "Change Ticket". (I find this easiest to do in the
My Disney Experience mobile app. Use the menu button in the lower right corner to select "Tickets & Passes".) I am guessing that the group tickets probably cannot be modified this way, so if you don't see that option, no worries. Disney Genie+ can be purchased on a daily basis through the app.
In order to purchase Disney Genie+ for the day, your son will need both a ticket linked to his profile and a
Disney Park Pass reservation. Disney Genie+ can be purchased anytime after midnight on the day he plans to use it. Since the first
Lightning Lane attraction can be reserved at 7:00 am, I recommend completing the purchase a few moments prior. In the My Disney Experience app, use the menu button to select "My Genie Day" and then click on the purple banner where you see "Get Disney Genie+ for Today". You'll be able to select your party from your Family & Friends List, and then follow the steps to complete your transaction.
While your son is in the parks, he'll be able to reserve Lightning Lane attractions through the "Tip Board" on the Disney Genie Service tile.
