My 16 y/o son is going to Disney on 3/23 for a school trip. Is there a step by step info sheet for how to purchase Disney +? I believe he has to create his own MDE account and then we link? I have him on a family account currently.

Hey Howdy Hey James and welcome to planDisney fellow Buckeye!

I bet your son is super excited about his upcoming trip to the Walt Disney World Resort. The Magic of Disney may feel a little different when traveling with friends, but he should have a blast experiencing the resort with his friends. Thank you for stopping by with your question on setting up his My Disney Experience account. I will be happy to get you more information so your son is all set for his trip.

The first thing you want to do is to set up his My Disney Experience account. If you had one for him that has been used in prior family vacations, you can transfer this one to him. Log into the account that manages his profile and go to the "My Family & Friends List". Scroll to his name and select the "Settings" button next to it. You should then see a blue hyperlink for "Share Planning with (your son's name) which you will click on. This will prompt you to link his email address to this account which will send a link to him after you plug in his information. Once he accepts, he now gains control over his account! On to the next step.

Once he has control over his account, he then needs to link his account to his friends. This is done exactly the same as you may have experienced visiting with other family and friends. Under his "Family & Friends List," he will look for the option on the top right to "Add a Guest". Once he clicks on that option, he will be prompted with several ways to look for his friends. This will then send them a link to confirm the connection and they will then be sharing plans.  If any dining reservations are made, he can select the friends from his list who may be joining him for this reservation. Likewise, he will have the option to include them in the next steps for purchasing Genie+ or selecting Lightning Lanes.

Once your son has his own My Disney Experience account and has his plans linked to his friends, he is ready for his trip. During his trip, on the day he wanted to purchase Genie+, he can do that right from his My Disney Experience app. As soon as he taps on the icon, the home screen will have information about Disney Genie+ Service at the top with a button to "Purchase". As long as a credit card is linked or handy, he can purchase Genie+ starting at midnight the day he will be visiting the park. He will be prompted for whom he will be purchasing Genie+ as he can select just himself or others. After he purchases Genie+, he is all set to make his Lightning Lane Selections for his park day. The first selection is available starting at 7:00 AM on the day of his visit. He can then book another after he redeems the first or 2 hours after the park officially opens to the public. If his friends also purchased Genie+, he can make the selections including his friends as well so they all can have the same experience.

There you have it James, a few extra steps but all should work smoothly to set up your son for his upcoming trip. I hope the process works smoothly for you and feel free to reach back out if you have any further questions.

    Have a Magical day,
