Hi Cortney,
Welcome to planDisney, and greetings from a fellow mama of a Mouseketeer with autism. One thing I love about our Disney vacations is that Cast Members go above and beyond to make sure that everyone has a magical experience. With lots of wonderful
services available for Guests with disabilities, my entire family feels at home at The Most Magical Place on Earth.
Under the phased reopening,
face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) as well as Cast Members. While there are acceptable times to remove them (like while swimming, eating or drinking as long as you're stationary and physically distanced from other Guests, or resting at a
Relaxation Station), everyone is required to wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth while visiting Walt Disney World Resort. I know it can be tricky for some of our kiddos, though, so if you have access to an Occupational Therapist, I'd ask them to work with your son to help him become comfortable with wearing a mask. If you don't, you could do an internet search to look for OT tips on mask wearing, and hopefully that could help you. If it's truly just not possible for your son to comfortably wear a mask right now, I'd encourage you to consider
postponing your visit until after the face covering requirement is lifted. While we don't yet know when that will be, I'd love for your Disney trip to be enjoyable and magical for
all of you!
Thanks so much for bringing this really important question to us at planDisney, Cortney, and if you'd like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact Disability Services at (407) 560-2547. Whether you decide to visit this
summer or move your trip back a bit, I hope that you and your son have a truly magical vacation!
