Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Kellie. I'm saddened to hEAR that your son is battling cancer. As a pediatric RN, I've been touched by and cared for many children and families affected with cancer.
Before embarking on your Walt Disney World Resort family vacation in September, I highly recommend getting medical clearance from your child's oncologist, ensuring that his labs are within safe ranges. It'll still be fairly warm next month in Florida. Staying hydrated is very important, as well as wearing sun protection. Ask for extra masks when you're at the Doctor's office to bring along with you. (Many clinics will have Disney or other child-friendly designs on their masks!) And it can't hurt to make an emergency plan with your child's oncologist in case he does get sick during your trip. All
First Aid centers in the theme parks and water parks of Walt Disney World Resort are staffed with nurses. Also, in-room medical services are available if you're staying at one of the Resort Hotels. Moreover, complimentary transportation is provided if your son needs to be seen at the nearest urgent care.
Have you or someone on your son's medical team made a referral to your local Make-A-Wish organization? If not, I definitely suggest doing so! I understand you'll be heading to Walt Disney World Resort next month and I'm unclear about the amount of time it takes for a referral to be processed before your son can "make his wish". However, if you contact your local Make-A-Wish, they may be able to organize something special for your son.
Kellie, I commend you on taking this vacation with your child and creating unforgettable memories with your family. I wish you the very best! Sending you and your family buckets of Pixie Dust! Please do not hesitate to visit us on the Panel again if you have further questions.
Have a magical day,
Kiki
