Hi Clair ~
I love to see that you are planning ahead. It makes for a smooth trip once you arrive at Disney.
We have been able to get a Disability Service Access Card (DAS) return time for character meet and greet locations that are in a permanent venue like
meeting Mickey in the Town Square Theater that offer
Disney FastPass+ service (FP+).
If you feel that your son will need assistance for character meet and greet locations that do not offer FP+, it won't hurt to ask a Cast Member. Some are willing to help and others are not.
For character meet and greet locations that are out in the open, Cast Members usually let one of us walk around in the area with our son while the others in our party wait in line.
It may help to bring things to entertain your son while waiting in line (favorite toys, electronics, head phones, etc.). I also try to keep my son engaged by talking to him or playing little games while we wait in line. It doesn't always work and sometimes we just have to take a deep breath and regroup.
Here is some
information regarding the DAS and children with autism that may assist you before and during your trip.
Please feel free to visit us again with all of your planning questions. We are hEAR for you!
Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
