Hi, Julie! Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
Like you, I am also the parent of a child with autism, so I completely understand your concern. Although my son is verbal, I know he would not be able to communicate my contact information if he was lost. That can be a very scary thought when visiting a place as big as the
Walt Disney World Resort, but I have a suggestion for you that I think will bring you some peace of mind.
Julie, I would recommend you do a quick search on a website such as Etsy. There you will find bracelets, temporary tattoos, and even
MagicBand decals that you can have custom-made with your contact information for your son to wear. This will be immediately noticeable to other guests and Cast Members, and it will be the quickest way for them to obtain your contact information.
I think you will find that the Walt Disney World Resort does an amazing job of
making the magic accessible to everyone and keeping vacations as stress-free as possible for special needs families. This is one of the reasons why my family returns to the Most Magical Place on Earth yEAR after yEAR. When we visit the Walt Disney World
theme parks with my son, we use
Disability Access Service. I would recommend that you stop by
Guest Relations when you arrive at one of the theme parks to see if this or any other accommodations would be appropriate for your kiddo.
As you get ready for your vacation, you might find this
guide for guests with cognitive disabilities helpful. If you have any additional questions about visiting Walt Disney World Resort with a child who has special needs, or any other general vacation planning questions, please stop by the Disney Parks Moms Panel again.
Have a magical day!
Samantha
