My son has Autism and last time we went to the park, we were unable to get any pictures with characters that were not at the character dining because he would melt down after waiting in line. Are there any options for DAS guests other than the lines?

    Hi Samantha!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I hope you are getting excited about your upcoming vacation!

As a mom with a kiddo on the autism spectrum, I understand that navigating the Theme Parks can be daunting sometimes. I’m glad that you are already aware that there are Services for Guests with Disabilities. My family has used the Disability Access Service many times, and it has been a real game-changer for my son. It has allowed us a much easier time while visiting the Theme Parks. When you return to the Walt Disney World Resort, be sure to visit Guest Services on your first day to explain your situation to the Guest Services Cast Members.

There are many different opportunities to meet your favorite Disney Characters. Like you, I’ve booked many Character meals so that my son could meet the Characters without having to wait in line, and the delicious food was always a welcome distraction for him! I’ve had differing experiences with character meet and greet locations using the Disability Service Access Card. My positive experiences have been at locations that have return times posted, such as locations to Meet Mickey at Town Square Theater and Meet Tinkerbell at Town Square Theater. Since these locations do have return times, the Cast Members can issue you a return time. Once your return time has arrived, you can go back to the FastPass+ entrance to meet your Character.

If my son has specific characters that he is hoping to meet, I try to get to the Theme Park early and make those meet and greets a priority. I also really enjoy visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. I have found great Character Meet and Greets such as Dug, Pluto, and Chip and Dale that are at locations that don’t seem to have long lines.  Be sure to check your My Disney Experience mobile app for Character Meet and Greet locations.

I hope that you have a magical time!
