Hi, Erin! Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
Like you, I am also the parent of a child with autism. I understand that traveling with a child who has special needs can certainly pose some challenges. I am happy to share with you that the Walt Disney World Resort has many
Services for Guests with Disabilities in place that can help ensure that your experience is a magical one. My son loves vacationing at the Walt Disney World Resort, and their willingness to accommodate his needs is one of the reasons we return yEAR after yEAR.
All of the
dining locations we have visited at the Walt Disney World Resort have been very accommodating of my son's food preferences. Even though he is 13 years old, he has always been able to order one of his comfort foods from the kids' menu. You can always speak with your server or ask to consult with the chef at any Walt Disney World restaurant to discuss dietary concerns and food alternatives. Since it sounds like your son may have an even more limited diet than my kiddo, it might be a good idea for you to contact the
Special Dietary Requests Cast Members. Their email address is Special.Diets@DisneyWorld.com. They might be able to give you a better idea of what specific menu substitutions could be made for your son.
In addition to the aquariums at
Coral Reef Restaurant, your son can also encounter over 4,000 sea creatures from more than 60 species at
SeaBase in the Seas Pavilion at
Epcot. Be sure to set aside some time in your schedule to explore this amazing attraction. The air-conditioned Seas Pavilion also provides a great break from the summer heat.
As you get ready for your vacation, you might want to take a look at this
guide for guests with cognitive disabilities. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask us. See ya real soon!
