Hiya, Jennifer! A school trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth during the most wonderful time of the year sounds practically perfect! What a way to kick off the holiday break.
You can purchase
Lightning Lane passes for your son on this magical trip just as you would if you were all going as a family. Lightning Lane passes are available seven days before a trip that includes a stay at a
Disney Resorts Collection or another qualified hotel. If the group stays elsewhere, you can purchase passes three days before the theme park visit. With a Disney resort stay or a multi-day date-based ticket, you can buy these for all four days at the same time.
I had the chance to speak with a Cast Member who works with school groups. She suggested that parents always check with school group organizers. Sometimes, they have made plans for the group, and it is helpful for everyone to align. They may also have the youth in groups for their time in the theme parks. It might also be beneficial to coordinate passes with the friends who will be with your son.
When it is time to purchase passes, you can select the "Lightning Lane" tile on the
My Disney Experience app's home screen. First, pick the date and theme park. You can purchase Lightning Lane Single Passes or a Lightning Lane Multi Pass. With a Multi Pass, you choose three attractions for each day. The Multi Pass experiences in
Magic Kingdom Park,
EPCOT and
Disney's Hollywood Studios are in two groups. With your initial selections, you can pick one from the first group and two (or all three) from the other group. Once your son has used his first Lightning Lane pass, he can choose another from any available.
I also recommend downloading the My Disney Experience app on your son's phone. And if he is 13 or older, set up his
MyDisney account to be one he manages. If you manage his account, you can easily transfer it to him by adding his email under his profile in your
Family & Friends List. He would just need to open the email and accept it. I did this with my teens recently, and they were thrilled to be able to see all our plans and make selections for our next passes.
Jennifer, I hope this is helpful and that your son has a wonderful trip to
Walt Disney World Resort! He will be making memories for a lifetime! If you have any other questions, please come see us again at
planDisney.
