My son will be 16 in April. He is a special needs kid. He has speech apraxia, adhd, autism and different other quirky things about him. What is the best time of year to go to Disney the Disney area. I like fall or spring. Just would like input.

    Hi there, Laura!

Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I’m so happy to be able to share with you my favorite times to visit Walt Disney World Resort. As a mom to a special needs little boy myself, I’m able to share my personal experiences with you!

My family enjoys visiting during the spring time because it honestly is a breath of fresh air!  You can watch flowers blossom and experience brilliant gardens at the 2020 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. As the weather continues to warm up during this season, my family loves to experience a water attraction midday, just after lunch. It’s the perfect cool down for them! Although, you can find me always wearing a raincoat or poncho, I much rather stay dry. April is one of our favorite months to visit, the only part we find a little tricky is constantly cleaning and removing my son’s ear protection. He feels more comfortable wearing noise reduction ear muffs in the parks, especially on attractions and during shows. Since the springtime brings warmer weather, we are having to remove them more frequently to “air out” his ears.

If we don’t visit in the spring, we go in the fall! Both of my children have fall birthdays so it's the perfect way to spend our vacation, celebrating them! The best part of this season are the decorations. Depending on when you go, you might even be able to purchase tickets to an evening party! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party are two separate ticketed events that are filled with Characters, entertainment, and even holiday themed treats! Plus, you are even able to experience select attractions at lower wait times during the party! My son absolutely loves visiting around Halloween time because of the decorations and the cooler weather.

No matter which season you decide to visit, I’m sure your trip will be Magical! Disney is very accommodating and makes our visits easier with the ability to use the Disability Access Service for our son. Be sure to visit Guest Relations if you have any questions or need other access options for your son. The Cast Members there, do their very best to make the needed accommodations for Guests with disabilities! I also recommend staying at a Disney Resort Hotel because they are conveniently located throughout the Resort for easy access to and from the parks. The complimentary transportation offered to Disney Resort Hotel Guests is just one of the many benefits included when staying at a Disney Resort Hotel.

Please visit us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel with any more questions you may have as you continue to plan for your visit!

    See ya real soon!
