Hiya Hollee!
Thank you so much for visiting planDisney! As a parent who loves a child with anxiety, I truly understand your concerns.
The
Disability Access Service (DAS) is just a small part of the many
accessibility services that Walt Disney World Resort provides to guests in need. DAS is currently changing a bit and after May 19, 2024, will look a bit different and more customized to each guest. It seems that guests will be directed to speak with a Cast Member as they have done in the past and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. This is not new and I unfortunately cannot theorize if your son's anxiety will be accepted for DAS or not as the conversation you have with the Cast Member will be far more in-depth than anything that can occur in our exchange here at planDisney. I suggest that around 30 days before your arrival you
reach out to speak to a Cast Member and get your questions answered. If you are arriving on May 27, 2024, then that would be April 27, 2024. Make sure that your son is with you for the meeting and that you are logged into your My Disney Experience Account.
I found a helpful guide for
accessing attraction queues that had several points that I know I will be using with my son. One of the best ways that has helped both my kids who struggle with the unknown is by watching videos of attraction queues and the ride itself. Learning beforehand what to expect, has helped them to anticipate something they know already about rather than something they fear they will hate. As always, mom's backpack is filled with snacks, drinks, and toys to keep them busy and distracted from any sneaky feelings that may ruin their day. It is always hard to stay ahead of triggers and situations that will make a loved one have a difficult moment but I know that Walt Disney World Cast Members will try their best to find the right solutions for your family.
I do hope that you have a magical time on your upcoming trip!
Happy Planning!
