Hi! My son will be almost 5 on our next WDW trip and LOVES cooking. I am inquiring about an experience I can surprise him with. Are there any kitchen tours or personal chef experiences we can enjoy? Thanks!

    Hey there, Krystin! What's cookin'?

It's great having a budding chef in the house, isn't it? It sounds like your son is a bit like my daughter. She's 9 now, but she's been tearing it up in the kitchen ever since she was in pre-school! Nowadays, she'll tell you that when she grows up, she wants to be a chef in The Most Magical Place on Earth. Obviously, that's one delicious dream I'm more than happy to support!

Krystin, it's no secret that Walt Disney World is known for its delicious food and iconic snacks. Even better? There are some very fun options for kids who are just as interested in making the food as they are in eating it!

First off, I'm happy to share that several Disney World restaurants feature visible kitchens, so your son can get a glimpse of all the behind-the-scenes action! Two of my favorites are California Grill and Jiko - The Cooking Place. When you check in to the restaurant, ask a Disney Cast Member for a table with a view of the kitchen. While this option won't always be available, Cast Members are usually happy to help make magic when they can. On one visit to Space 220, my daughter told our server that she wanted to become a chef, and next thing you know, we were on an impromptu tour of the kitchen! Talk about pixie dust!

Now, if your son is anything like my daughter, he'll want to get in on the action, too. In this case, I highly recommend the Cake Decorating Experience at Amorette's Patisserie in Disney Springs. With this family-friendly Enchanting Extra, guests as young as 5 can learn the basics of cake decorating and adorn their own cake to take home! To check availability and reserve your spot, click right here. Keep in mind that the base price covers two guests decorating one cake.

Before I let you go, I have two final suggestions. The first is 50's Prime Time Café at Disney's Hollywood Studios. My family loves this restaurant for its silly shenanigans, which sometimes include asking kids to serve tables! And lastly, any burgeoning chef should know how their ingredients are grown, right? With EPCOT's Behind the Seeds tour, your son will learn how fish, fruits, and vegetables go from the farm to the kitchen to the table!

I hope this helps, Krystin, and that your time in Disney World is nothing short of magical! And remember, "Anyone can cook, but only the fearless can be great!"

    Magic awaits,

    Allison
