If someone requires a wheelchair (paralyzed) and are with a 9 and 4 year old, can they ride rides together?

Hi there, Alison. Welcome to planDisney! I’m happy that you’re planning a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth.

Thanks for bringing an important question to us. There are countless reasons why Disney holds a special place in heart and one of them is inclusivity at Disney parks. No matter the type of disability (whether neurodivergent or mobility-related), Disneyland Resort provides ways for all Guests to be included. When I’m not wearing my planDisney panelist’s ears, I wear scrubs and care for children with cancer, many of them requiring wheelchairs. Parents have told me how much fun their child had at the Disneyland Resort and the use of a wheelchair did not limit what they were able to do at the parks. Also, my family did a trip shortly after my daughter had surgery on both feet and she needed to be in a wheelchair. We navigated the parks mostly with ease (it was during the busy summertime) and my daughter was able to enjoy all the rides together with us.

There are accessibility options and helpful services available to Guests with mobility disabilities throughout the Disneyland Resort. Each attraction varies but there are ways for Guests to load into and unload from ride vehicles safely and comfortably with the rest of their party. This may include dedicated accessibility line, wheelchair access vehicles, or transfer devices; be sure to check with Cast Members that operate the rides. Before your visit, I highly recommend that you visit the “Services for Guests with Mobility Disabilities” section to familiarize yourself with all the services and options available.

If you have more trip-planning questions, please don’t hesitate to visit us on planDisney again. I wish you and your loved ones a magical trip to the Disneyland Resort.

    Sending you pixie dusts,
    Kiki

Meet the Panelist: Kiki, California

Greetings! I have been fascinated by the magic of Disney since I was a little girl; now that I am a mother of two, I love watching my children experience Disney Parks through their own eyes. I am also surrounded by fellow Disney-loving nurse friends whom I enjoy quick adults-only Disneyland Resort escapes or Disney Cruise Line voyages with. Whether you are planning your once-in-a-lifetime family trip or a short adults-only getaway to the Happiest Place on Earth, I am here to help!
