Is Sofia the first an official Disney Princess the way our other princesses are? Also I’m an adult. If she is a Princess why has she not had a ceremony at Disney parks. I personally don’t think Disney Junior shows count.

Greetings to you Natalia, I'd like to wish a most royal welcome to you here at planDisney!

Take it from a Prince, it can definitely be a bit tricky with so many headstrong heroines and Princesses alike here across the vast repertory of Disney films and especially among those that you could meet at Walt Disney World Resort. Having spent a fair amount of time among my Princess pals, I went straight to the source to find out more about where she stands among Disney royalty and the regal celebrations that may or may not follow their on-screen debut:

    • You're absolutely right in that Sofia the First - though very much a rightful Princess of Enchancia through her mother's marriage to King Roland - counts in a different way compared to perhaps her older counterparts from whom she learns and looks up to as we see through her Disney Junior adventures. It's been just over a decade since she first stepped out into Disney Destinations on both land and at sea to bring a larger-than-life presence representing some of the youngest aspiring royals everywhere who sought to meet her in person, so to speak.
    • It's important to note that not everyone within the Disney Princess lineup is necessarily a Princess - some are daughters of chiefs or even a heroic warrior who was offered a seat on the Emperor's counsel. Notably, Anna and Elsa have both held the titles of Princess and Queen of Arendelle but aren't included within the Disney Princess franchise and there are quite a few characters across the 100 Years of the Walt Disney Company who are also Princesses in their own right but also don't quite count in the same way, like Eilonwy from the Black Cauldron and Vanellope von Schweetz. (You just might be able to spot them among the other Princesses and 543 characters featured in Once Upon a Studio!)
On your next visit to EPCOT, I hope you get the opportunity to meet Asha as she journeys from her kingdom of Rosas and stay tuned to see where she fits among our legacy of leading ladies. Come back again to planDisney soon Natalia, for any other bits of royal knowledge I can bestow upon you!
