Ahoy there, Rebecca! Welcome aboard planDisney! I'm so glad you're just over a month away from your visit to
Disney Castaway Cay!
When it comes to taking a look "Under the Sea," snorkeling at Castaway Cay is a great way to do so! The crystal clear waters, calm conditions, and sunken treasures to discover make it a must-do! But I can see you're looking for thingamabobs and whozits and whatzits galore and considering taking your gear to Serenity Bay!
The short answer is, yes, you can snorkel at Serenity Bay! The longer answer is there are a few things to know before doing so:
- Snorkeling is unsupervised, so if you're not a confident swimmer, I'd suggest keeping to the snorkeling lagoon at the Castaway Family Beach. If you decide to do that, I'd be sure to head out first thing in the morning for the best visibility!
- Depending on the tide, you may not even need snorkel gear to discover some sea life! at low tide, I've been able to walk in roughly waist-deep water quite far from shore to see sea stars, fish, and the occasional clump of seaweed. haha.
- Since Serenity Bay is not protected by any structures (either manmade or natural) there's no telling whether you'll find anything worth looking for - but that's half the fun of snorkeling in the Bahamas!
No matter what you choose, if you're not planning on bringing your own snorkel gear, I definitely suggest booking a
snorkel gear equipment rental ahead of time! Simply go to the "
Book/Manage Cruise Activities" section of the Disney Cruise Line website under "Already Booked!"
I hope that clears up the waters for you, Rebecca! I just returned from a Bahamian itinerary myself, so the beauty and fun of Castaway Cay are fresh in my mind...and the sand is fresh in my luggage, too...
Thank you so much for your question, and if you have any others as you finish planning, please sail my way again here at planDisney!
Life is the bubbles!
