My sister & I are planning on running the WDW Marathon next year (2013) for my 30th b-day! Our 1st 26.2! I was wondering if you had any tips or secrets for planning our trip, like when to start book? Things that are a must & what to avoid? & sp

Hi AmiJo! Great birthday gift! It will be the 20th anniversary of the Disney World marathon so the medals should be really special!  I would browse the resorts on www.disneyworld.com to see what ones you like best. During marathon weekend, ALL resorts are host resorts and will offer free buses to and from the expo and races.  My favorites are the Epcot Resorts(Beach/Yacht Club, Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin) because there is a lot to do close by for adults. Epcot is home to many fabulous restaurants and roaming the countries in the World Showcase Pavilion if great.  The Boardwalk area also has some night clubs.  My husband and I recently went to Jellyrolls on the Boardwalk during an adult's only trip.  It is a dueling piano bar, and was so much fun!  Tell them it's your birthday if you go!  You can hop on a ferry from the Epcot resorts to either Epcot or Hollywood Studios, or you can walk to both of those parks. For parks, I think Epcot and Hollywood Studios have more for adults to do.  At Epcot, don't miss: Soarin', Spaceship Earth, Test Track and Illuminations.  At Hollywood Studios, don't miss:The American Idol Adventure, The Great Movie Ride, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Rock 'n" Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith, and Fantasmic. Downtown Disney is a great place for shopping and restaurants and doesn't require a ticket.  My two favorite restaurants there are Paradiso 37 and Raglan Road.  If you have the time and the money, the Cirque du Soleil show at Downtown Disney is amazing!
Obviously, the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are fun too, but I am trying to give you ideas for a more adult oriented trip.  If kids are going, let me know and I can make different recommendations!
You can make dining reservations up to 180 days in advance.  Once you know what you want, I suggest making them as early as possible.  There are a lot of runners there that weekend, and we will all be carb-loading for the big day!
