Hi, my sister & I are planning a family vaca foe aug 2011 with our families 4b & 2G AGES 5,4,4,3,2,1 & 6 adults. we r thinking a moderate resort any recommendations? also does the swan still offer a teacher rate? thanks

    Alicia:

In August, I have two recommendations for resorts in the Moderate category:

    • Caribbean Beach Resort: With so many younger children, I think they would LOVE playing in the themed Pirates pool--especially the boys.  It's water-play area is perfect for pint-size pirates.  The only down-side to this resort: it's layout which is so spread out.  It may be worth the cost of reserving a preferred room and requesting that you be near the pool with little ones who won't want to walk so far and adults who won't want to push strollers in the Florida heat.
    • Port Orleans French Quarter: While it's pool is not as well-themed as CBR's, it has a slide and most youngsters will be happy with that! What gives it a leg up in the summer's heat is the smaller size of its campus and boat transportation to Downtown Disney, an attraction all in itself.  I'd recommend requesting a room in building number 5 so you can be near the pool and Main Building and possibly have a view of the river.
As for the Swan, they still have teacher rates, but you have to call to get them as they don't publish them online.  We stayed there when our children were near the ages of yours and loved being so near Disney Studios and Epcot.  The pool, while not particularly themed, has several water falls and there are paddle boats for rent on its lake.  Another plus: many more options both in the hotel and at the Boardwalk for eateries over the Moderates.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
