Hi there Kathy, and welcome to planDisney from one Canadian to another!

It's so great to hear that you're already planning ahead for a Walt Disney World Resort visit in January - especially when the winter weather being in full force in Ontario makes a trip to sunny Florida just that much more appealing! In fact, I often find myself surrounded by Canadians here at this time of the year so I'm absolutely happy to help you with a few pointers to help you and sister when you make your way down here:

The current drop off location for guests looking to make their way over to Magic Kingdom Park is at the Transportation and Ticket Center with access to complimentary Resort Transportation. After passing under the sign reading Magic Kingdom at the toll plaza, the Parking Cast Members direct drivers to where they are permitted to load and unload passengers - in the same direction where shuttles and chartered buses from off-property hotels go to do the same. After passing through security scanners you can choose to either take the ferryboat from the Transportation and Ticket Center dock or the Walt Disney World Monorail System to Magic Kingdom Park with great views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the surrounding Resort Hotels with either mode of transportation.

However if you choose to schedule a ride specifically using Minnie Van™ Service Connected by Lyft—Within Walt Disney World Resort, this comes with the added perk of being dropped off right in front of the entrance to Magic Kingdom Park itself just adjacent to where Disney Resort Hotel Buses unload. This is one scenario which makes the somewhat higher price of choosing this service much more worth it in my opinion!

As for the best days of the week to visit Magic Kingdom Park, I did a little dive into the historical crowd trends for January and while things do change from year to year, I have consistently personally found that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are my preferred days. (This was a big reason why we chose to celebrate our Disney Wedding in the middle of the week in January!)

Conducting my planDisney research each January has allowed me to observe that folks like to begin their Walt Disney World Resort vacations at Magic Kingdom Park - especially if they are first-timers with a tendency for Fridays and weekends to be at its busiest among locals and visitors from afar. Those spending a week here in Orlando also seem to choose Mondays at Magic Kingdom Park as a starting point for the rest of their stay, and it's important to keep in mind that Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated on the third Monday of January which does tend to bring in holiday crowds. You might also want to keep an eye on the dates for next year's runDisney Marathon Weekend which will also bring in throngs of runners and well-wishers alike in the days surrounding it!
