My sister is handicap we currently have a room at pop century is the resort easy for her to catch transportation to parks or what resort can accommodate better trans wise , we called and they booked us here at pop but getting mixed reviews. Any Ideas?

    Hello, Hermilo,

Thank you for sending your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.  I'm so excited to hear you have made reservations at Disney's Pop Century Resort. I think this is a nice resort for your sister because it isn't an overly large resort and it has only one bus stop.  If possible, you may want to see if you booked a Preferred Room as those would be closest to the main building where dining is as well as the bus stop. There are also wheelchair accessible rooms with roll-in showers if that would be helpful for your sister, and you'd want to update your reservation to reflect that room request. Another feature of this resort is the Disney Skyliner. This is a wonderfully easy way to visit both Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios from Disney's Pop Century Resort.  What I really appreciated when we recently stayed there was how at the end of the day when many guests were returning to their resorts, the wait to get on the Skyliner was not a long one for us.

To visit Disney's Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and/or Disney Springs, you would need to take a bus. All the buses are designed to accommodate guests in wheelchairs or those who use Electric Conveyance Vehicles.  If your sister does not use either a wheelchair or Electric Conveyance Vehicles, but she would do better not going up steps into a bus, you can alert the bus driver that you would like to use the back ramp to walk onto the bus.

Disney's Pop Century Resort is made up of 10 buildings.  If you think you'd prefer having a resort that is only one building with larger rooms, you may want to consider looking into Disney's Riviera Resort, which just opened in December.  It also has more amenities available to guests, but I should note that the room rates will be higher. It, too, has access to the Skyliner.

My mother was in a wheelchair, and she visited Walt Disney World several times.  We were always so impressed with how well accommodations were made for her; she really had some wonderful trips as the Services for Guests with Disabilities are incredibly helpful.   When we visited with her, we stayed at one of the Magic Kingdom resorts (Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, Disney's Contemporary Resort) because we could take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. We could also transfer monorails at the Ticket and Transportation Center to take the monorail to Epcot. If you think you may spend most of your trip at the Magic Kingdom, you may find these resorts easier for your sister.  Similarly, Disney's Wilderness Lodge  has boat transportation to and from the Magic Kingdom that has easy access (water levels may change this, however).

As you think through these different resort features and find you still have questions, please let us know. Wishing you a magical trip! -Kara
