I am a single parent visiting WDW the week after Thanksgiving. My children are ages 7, 5, and 5. How can I get my oldest on Splash mountain while I wait with the younger, less adventurous, kids.? If we wait in line with the 7 year old, can he ride alone?

    Hi Elizabeth,

Yes, as long as your son is at least seven years old and meets the height requirements for the ride he may ride Splash Mountain by himself.  All of you may wait together through the Splash Mountain queue.  Then, right before guests board the ride, you and your younger kids may exit through the door designated for guests who have decided at the last minute not to ride.  When your son reaches the Cast Member who assigns seats in the log flume, simply instruct him to say "one."  He'll love this exciting and entertaining ride.  Meanwhile, ask a Cast Member for the best place to meet up with your son after the ride.  They will likely direct you to the monitors where pictures of guests enjoying the ride appear.  I bet he'll have exciting stories to share with you about his ride.

Here's another tip for kids riding solo:  Make friends with a family with whom you'll be waiting in line.  If you ask another mom riding with her kids to direct him back to you after the ride, you know he'll have an adult to keep him company.  Hand her a copy of your cell phone number in the unlikely event that you have trouble spotting him at the end of the ride.  I've always been impressed with the kindness of fellow park guests at Walt Disney World.  I imagine you'll have no trouble finding another parent who would gladly let your son ride with his or her family. It's a great way to make friends at Walt Disney World.

Wishing you many magical memories on your upcoming trip!
